Halo semuanya! Today, we will see how to use
some structures. I want you to inform me -by commenting below- the weakest subjects that you are at.
1) Question Tags
........................, isn't it?
Ini (adalah) besar, bukan?
(This is big, isn't it?)
NOTE: *adalah = is , but you can't make the
sentences like this;
Ini adalah besar, tidak or tidak adalah? (X)
This is wrong!!! This is a structure and you cannot change.
Gadis ini (adalah) cantik, bukan?
This girl is beautiful, isn't she?
Kamu bukan dari Indonesia, kan?
You aren't from Indonesia, are you?
*"bukan" makes negative "to be" ,
while "tidak" makes negative "verbs"...
Kamu dari Turki, bukan?
You're from Turkey, aren't you?
**If question tags are positive then you use "kan", if question tags are negative then you use "bukan"
***By the way, you cannot use "adalah(is)"
in the beginning of the question sentences,
you should use "apakah(is)" instead of it. The use
of "adalah" is not that important, I meant,
it is okay if you say this sentence without it
"Gadis ini cantik.(This girl is beautiful.)"
Sentence gives the same meaning.***
Apakah kamu ganteng? (Are you handsome?)
Ya, saya. (Yes, I'm.)
Apakah dia lapar? (Is s/he hungry?)
Dia bukan lapar. ( No, s/he isn't hungry.)
Exercises about bukan or kan:
a) Ibumu seorang guru, ..............?
b) Ayahnya bukan seorang pentani, .............?
c) Gaun ini bukan mahal, ............?
(Answers are below!)
2) Time Adverbs
The first time, When, Until, After, Before...
The first time I saw you was last year.
Pertama kali aku melihatmu tahun lalu.
When you came, I went.
Ketika kamu datang, aku pergi.
Until she leave, I will make a cake.
Sampai dia pergi, saya akan membuat kue.
After you study, you can go to park.
Setelah kamu belajar, kamu bisa pergi ke taman.
Before you eat, you should/have to wash your hands.
Sebelum kamu makan, kamu harus mencuci tanganmu.
Answers:
a) Ibumu seorang guru, ..............?
*bukan?
b) Ayahnya bukan seorang pentani, .............?
*kan?
c) Gaun ini bukan mahal, ............?
*kan?
Attention!: b and c are negative sentences
so the question tags should be positive or another tip, if you see "bukan" in a sentence then its question tag should be "kan".
**NOT: As we mentioned before, in Bahasa Indonesia you don't need to use "sebuah(a/an)" for objects, but you can use "seorang(a/an)" for people.
I mean, in sentence a, that's why we use "seorang"
"Your mother is a teacher, isn't she?"
"Ibumu seorang guru, bukan?"
seorang dokter (a doctor)
seorang pekerja (a worker)
seorang mahasiswa (a student)
